Expression GYM
About
Not to become actors. To become more capable, expressive, responsive, and alive.
Live Studio Jax is an Expression GYM. We bring together a rare mix of expressive practices: mime, clowning, physical theatre, rhythm, masks, improvisation, and character work, not to train performers, but to strengthen the person behind the performance.
It gives kids a place to return to every week to stretch their expressive range, build focus, self-control, awareness, confidence, timing, adaptability, imagination, and social skills, discover new sides of themselves, and become more comfortable being fully seen.
Weekly Schedule
Four themed days. One studio. Sixty minutes each.
Monday
Listen
Body Percussion + Ear Training
Rhythm, awareness, coordination
Body percussion and ear training develop the ability to notice, respond, and stay connected. Students learn to listen with more than their ears: to rhythm, timing, patterns, other people, and the group as a whole. "Listen" becomes a foundation for attention, coordination, and presence.
Tuesday
Express
Commedia dell’Arte + Clowning
Physical expression, presence, timing
Commedia and clowning encourage students to make their inner impulses visible and readable. Through gesture, posture, emotion, exaggeration, status, and comic timing, they discover how much can be communicated without relying only on words. "Express" is about becoming less inhibited and expanding the range of ways they can show themselves.
Wednesday
Play
Improvisation + Character Building
Spontaneity, imagination, adaptability
Improvisation and character work teach students to respond rather than prepare everything in advance. They practice making choices, accepting offers, taking creative risks, adapting quickly, and seeing situations from different points of view. "Play" develops flexibility, imagination, and confidence in the unknown.
Thursday
Create
Expression Lab
Experimentation, originality, creative ownership
Expression Lab brings the week together. Students combine movement, voice, rhythm, character, objects, storytelling, and other performance tools to make something of their own. "Create" shifts them from practicing someone else’s exercise to developing ideas, making choices, and discovering their own expressive language.
