Dear friends,

I am going to tell you something I have been noticing for years.

The kids coming up now are amazing. Sharp senses. Fast minds. A real hunger for things that matter. They do not need to be entertained. They need to be challenged.

And right now, most of the systems we built for them are not doing that.

Children who barely speak in their classrooms come to a Showfar program and tell us about their grandmother's recipe, the song they are trying to write, the puzzle that has been bugging them. Why? Because there is room for them. Because we asked.

Public school is doing what it can. It is overcrowded. It is built for the average kid in the average week. It is also, honestly, built as much for working parents as for the kids. Parents need childcare. That is real. But the kid usually needs something else.

This summer, we are building that something else.

The program

Six cultures. One small crew. Real curriculum hidden inside real adventures.

Why food

Cooking is the conversation that does not feel like a conversation.

Food is where culture lives. The fastest way into another country is through its kitchen, and the fastest way into another kid is through their hands.

We watched it happen last summer. A girl who would not say a word at lunch was suddenly, hands deep in dough, telling me about her grandfather's matzo ball soup and how much she missed him. Another kid was rolling sushi mats and explaining the rice ratio to a friend who had never seen sushi made by hand. They were tasting, arguing, laughing, and figuring out together that the world is bigger than their block.

Cooking opens kids up because it does not feel like a test or a performance. The food is just there. The conversation follows.
